Help comes from unexpected places
I’m a big believer in there being no coincidences, and that the wisdom of the universe is whispered and displayed every day, everywhere, and we can pick up hints as to what is going on if we look around and listen, even if the big picture is beyond our ken. Truth can be found in overheard conversations and a child’s prattle and on TV and in books and in songs…always in songs, where the human experience is regularly distilled into an essence simple enough to be conveyed in three minutes. We must listen to our bards, in every age. They often speak for the collective soul, and speak for us as individuals when we cannot find the words.
In the last couple of weeks I’ve been up and down, and down and down, but into this darkness have come some sparkling gems that have spoken directly to me as truth. I thought I’d share them here, for my own edification, if no one else’s, though if they do speak to you, I’ll be glad. I have found that such pertinent tidbits tend to find me when I really need them, small pieces of first-aid for an injured soul and aching heart. They are blessings that allow me to step back, get some perspective, so that I can step once more into the breach a little steadier than I was before they found me.
“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.”–Helen Keller
“How amazing that in the bitterness and disappointment of our separation, that the truth that emerges unscathed is Love. And how they prove it to us over and over again.”– A wise soul at the YWBB
“So you do. You write and you giggle and you kiss and you order cinnamon latte instead of hot chocolate and life goes on and days go by and she, who isn’t as cold as ice, but cotton wool around your soul, holds your hand and reminds you to live each day in spite of yourself.
In spite of yourself. Because life is what you are for m’lady. Like it or not, life is what you are for.” –Alison May, blogger who just lost a loved one
In spite of yourself. Like it or not. I like that part especially. Like it or not, life is what we’re for.
So it seems. It bears remembering.
